Three Peaks – Yorkshire Dales National Park
The Three Peaks is the collective name for the mountains of Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The famous walking challenge is 24 miles, three peaks and 12 hours to complete the circuit. Each peak can be done on its own, with the closest to the Fenwick being Ingleborough from Ingleton at just 10 miles away. This 6 mile return walk takes about 3 hours and climbs to 575m. From the summit there are views out into Morecambe Bay and round to the Lakeland Fells as well as to nearby Whernside and Pen-y-ghent. Terrain is rugged and steep at points.
Ambleside, The Lake District
Due to its position in the Lake District National Park, the beautiful town of Ambleside is a fantastic base to explore the eastern fells of the Lake District. Walkers are spoilt for choice when it comes to walking routes and destinations. Stockghyll Force Waterfalls is a fine example of a short walk – less than 1 mile and about 20 minutes through Stockghyll woodlands towards the dramatic 70ft waterfall. Longer routes to Grasmere, the Old Man of Coniston and Rydal are well documented and range from 4-10 miles. Ambleside is a 45 minute drive from the Fenwick.
Ingleton Waterfalls Trail
This is a circular, 4.5 mile trail and has 6 waterfalls on the route through oak woodlands and spectacular, varied scenery. It is strenuous at points but pathways are clear and signposted. Voted in ITV’s Top 100 Britain’s Favourite Walks. Entry fees apply. A 10 mile drive from the Fenwick.se.
