Day One

If you’re after a physical challenge during your visit, the Three Peaks Challenge route is 24 miles long and includes an ascent of 5,200ft. You will take on the peaks of the Pennine range of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in about 12 hours. You can complete the peaks as part of an organised trip certain times of the year or for the brave – go it alone!

After a day filled with trekking, you will definitely want to unwind and the Lancaster Brewery is the perfect place to relax. Lancaster Brewery. As one of the largest micro brewers in the North West, you will find daily daily tours, with the option for a pub lunch. Or you might just want to sit in their Tap House drinking den, where you can try even more of their beers and ciders.

Day Two

The next day you will likely want to unwind and you can while away the morning at Lancaster Castle, which is owned by HM Queen Elizabeth II, through the Duchy of Lancaster and is home to a tremendous English history. It was established by the Romans and was a home to the monarchs and was a prison until 2012. Most of the castle is opened its door to the public in 2013 for the first time in 1,000 years.

If it’s a market day, make a stop at Lancaster’s bustling Charter Market, which is located in the heart of Lancaster’s historic city centre. Here you can enjoy the hustle and bustle of a traditional outdoor market and the aromas of freshly cooked food as you meander through more than 40 stalls selling a wide selection of items. From local produce to international cuisine, fresh fruit and vegetables to plants and flowers, this is the perfect way to pass the afternoon.

If there’s still time left in your day and you like to fish, you should pay a visit to Wyreside Lakes (a short drive from Lancaster). The family-run business, situated in over 120 acres of farmland at the foot of the Bowland Fells in Dolphinholme. There are six fishing lakes with a superb stocking of coarse and pike. For walkers and those who appreciate nature, the River Wyre meanders through the property alongside the beautiful bluebell laden Fox’s wood.
