The Fenwick has an enviable position at the gateway to the Lake District National Park. England’s largest and arguably most breath-taking outdoor destination, the Lake District offers stunning lakes, mountains, valleys and towns to explore. Ambleside is a fantastic base to explore the eastern fells of the Lake District and is a 45 minute drive from the Fenwick.
City Of Lancaster
Lancaster is steeped in history with a 12th century castle sitting on top of the hill, overlooking the city and the River Lune. Its maritime heritage is apparent at the 18th century quayside and there are many notable buildings to visit including the Roman Bath House and Lancaster Priory. Lancaster charter market is a great way to shop outdoors and operates every Wednesday and Saturday. Williamson Park offers 54 acres of woodland and views across to Morecambe Bay.
Yorkshire Dales
Covering 860 square miles, the Yorkshire Dales is home to the famous ‘Three Peaks’ mountains, abbeys, castles, caves, gorges and pretty market towns such as Grassington. The Fenwick sits just 10 miles from the edge of the Dales so is a great base to explore the landscape.
Morecambe Bay
Nothing beats a trip to the seaside. Morecambe Bay has a 5 mile stretch of sandy beaches set around an award winning seafront promenade. A 10 mile drive from the Fenwick.
Wyreside Lakes - Fishing
If fishing’s your thing, why not pay a visit to Wyreside Lakes, family run business, situated in over 120 acres of farmland at the foot of the Bowland Fells in Dolphinholme. On the estate, there are six fishing lakes with a superb stocking of coarse and pike. For walkers and those who appreciate nature, the River Wyre meanders through the property alongside the beautiful bluebell laden Fox’s wood.
Claughton Hall Shooting

Tufton Arms
Just under an hour’s drive away is The Tufton Arms in the Eden Valley, which offers some of the best pheasant shooting, grouse, partridge, and rough shooting in Cumbria. Combined with its proximity to two of the very finest estates for partridge shooting and being surrounded by the grouse moors of the North Pennines, ensures that they can run this sport from August to the end of January.
